WINDSOR RFC vs AMERSHAM & CHILTERN RFC Highlights
After the disappointment of a late cancellation last Sunday, Windsor Colts were keen to get this game on, and keep the momentum in their campaign to win OBB Division 1.
Amersham & Chiltern arrived at Home Park unbeaten in the league, and level with Windsor at the top of the league. The Colts expected a fierce encounter.
With a healthy partisan Windsor crowd (thank you!) behind the boys, the boys set about delivering a performance worthy of their support.
The first 20 mins were well contested, as both sides cancelled each other out, and the scoreboard remained unchallenged. However, Windsor’s lineout functioned well, and our forwards started to gain some dominance, allowing the exciting back line to cut free, a few well taken phases and quick ball was fed to Randy Karize, with the prop skilfully putting James Warnell through for a try under the posts - swiftly converted by Harry Stevens for a 7-0 lead. Windsor were now exerting pressure on their opposition and just before the break, Harry Steven’s broke the line, again the ball was recycled and James Warnell sped in register a brace of tries, again converted by Stevens. 14-0 at the break.
Windsor made a number of personnel changes at the break, and whilst determined to see this game off, then struggled to move the score board on. However, their defence held firm, particularly noteworthy was Adam Loo crucially executing some try saving tackles to keep the opposition out. Midway through the 2nd half, Warnell broke in midfield, and forced a penalty in A&C’s twenty-two. A quick tap & go from the forwards was recycled for Joe Rodgers to dive over for a well taken try. With Harry Stevens on fire, he slotted a challenging conversion for a 21-0 lead. Windsor now pressed for that bonus 4th try, and whilst they came close a few times, A&C defence held firm. As the game closed out, A&C attacked forcing a Windsor defensive line out just 10m out from the try line. For probably the first time in this game, Windsor line out didn’t function, and a mistimed throw meant the ball bobbled loose, only to be picked up by A&C to register a consolation try. With the try unconverted, the final whistle came, and Windsor could celebrate a hard fought 21-5 scoreline, and a move to top the Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire Division 1 league.
