Windsor had very successful last weekend of rugby in 2024 with the U16s beating Maidenhead on Friday night in their OBB Division One League match followed by the Men’s 1st XV beating Bicester on Saturday and the Men Dev XV drawing at Bracknell in their respective league matches.
The U16’s Friday night match was watched by a good crowd and the U16s won the league match beating Maidenhead by 39 points to 17 at Braywick Park.
Report from U16s Head Coach Duncan Gibb:
‘Windsor travelled to Maidenhead for a Friday Night Lights special in the OBB Div 1 league, nerves were high after a couple close losses in the league, knowing this was a must win game. A large crowd greeted the boys as they ran onto the field, Windsor supporters had turned up in numbers though including a strong contingent from the Colts side to cheer them on.
Maidenhead came firing out of the blocks scoring a powerful try in the first two minutes, the boys didn’t panic though and returned the favour scoring off the restart, game on! Maidenhead had the better of the tight exchanges, but the speed and footwork of the Windsor backline grew in ascendancy with the deadeye boot of Thomas Schofield (10) keeping Maidenhead pinned back and the scoreboard ticking.
Lawson Horler added a try following an initial powerful surge from his co-captain James Gibb, Windsor’s fitness and speed was beginning to tell. Thomas Shepherd added two tries from his wing, ghosting through the defence untouched for his second.
In a reverse of the earlier try, Lawson made a quick tap and go to then have James Gibb turn try scorer, brushing off 4 would be tacklers. Windsor’s final try was scored by Leon Lindon-Morris on the other wing.
Thomas Schofield was Man of the Match, controlling the game from 10 with a full range of chips, grubbers and long-range kicks to keep the large Maids pack constantly retreating, as well as slotting three conversions and a penalty. ‘
Final score Windsor 39 Maidenhead 17
Saturday at Home Park was busy with over 90 people sitting down to Christmas Lunch prior to the Men’s Dev XV Southern Counties North League match against Bicester.
The lunch was a great success and it ensured that there was a good home crowd for the last match at Home Park in 2024.
The club would like to thank all those who attended the league lunch and came down to the club Saturday to support the players. It was much appreciated.
A big thank you also to Chef , Tony and Clubhouse Manager, Jen and the bar and kitchen staff for all their hard work on Saturday. It was appreciated by everybody present.
With the ground being very heavy at Home Park, the visit of Bicester was always going to be tough as they always have a strong set of forwards.
Windsor started the game very well with a an early try from Harry Bicknell which was converted by Ben Grant Adamson. Bicester quickly responded with a try of their own to cut Windsor’s lead to 2 points (7-5). Windsor then increased their lead further with tries from Ben Grant- Adamson and Luke Budd. Bicester then responded with a try of their own to reduce the deficit to seven points with Windsor leading by 17 points to 10. There was one final score before half time which enabled the home side to go into the break with a good lead in what was a good half display of attacking rugby when one considered the difficult conditions.
Half Time Score Windsor 24, Bicester 10.
The second half was a scrappy affair but in the end Windsor were comfortable winners with Prop Billy Porter scoring one try and winger Joe Triegaardt scoring 3 tries. All four tries were converted by Ben Grant- Adamson.
Final Score Windsor 50 , Bicester 10.

The Men’s Dev XV travelled to Bracknell to play Bracknell 3rd XV in their latest OBB Counties 3 League Match. The match was a very closely fought game and neither side were able to get on the scoresheet so the final score was a very rare’ Nil Ni’ l Draw’.
Development Player of the Match: Rhys Mynott.
The Men’s Dev XV finish 2024 in 5th place and are handily placed to the challenge the sides above in 2025. Their next match is away at Henley 3rd XV on Saturday January 4th 2025.
