Saturday 9th November 2024 Rugby Review.
Last Saturday both the Men’s 1st and 3rd XV had away league matches and both sides had good wins! The Men’s Development XV did not have a game.
The 1st XV travelled to play bottom placed Grove RFC in their latest Tribute Southern Counties North League Match. Traditionally Grove has always been a difficult place to get a positive result as they always have a strong set of forwards.
After the 2 minutes silence to mark Remembrance Weekend, Windsor started very quickly and it was evident that Windsor had much more pace in their backline.
Windsor opened the scoring with a Joe Tregaardt try within the first couple of minutes which was converted by Ben Grant Adamson. By half time Windsor were leading by 35 points to nil scoring 5 tries in the process.
The second half continued in the same vein with Windsor playing some very clinical attacking rugby scoring a further 8 tries.

Final Score Grove 0. Windsor 83.
Parfitt Cresswell Man of the Match: Joe Tregaardt.
Windsor are now in 3rd place behind unbeaten Oxford Harlequins 2nd XV and Chinnor 3rd XV. This Saturday Windsor will have a much sterner test as they host fourth placed Bletchley who have a similar record to Windsor.
The Men’s 3rd XV travelled to Thatcham to play Thatcham 2nd XV in their latest Counties 3 BBO League Match. Windsor won by 31 points to nil and are now top of the league.
Sunday 10th November 2024 Rugby Review.
On Sunday Morning Home Park was busy but still came to a standstill at 11.00am for 2 minutes to mark Remembrance Sunday.
The highlight of the morning was a very successful Girls Only session for all Girls from the Minis and Junior Section. Well done to Rebecca Curley for organizing the morning and for all the hard work from the Damsels coaches as well as senior players Adam Bailes and Ollie Malcolm for making the events such a success with very positive feedback
The Colts had a friendly against Chipping Norton which kicked off on Sunday lunchtime. The game was a very close affair with the away side winning by 29 points to 22.
Report from Colts Manager Jason Stone:
‘On Sunday, Colts Extra XV squad took on a Chipping Norton RFC A team at Home Park.
With the Colts 1st XV training nearby, ahead of their National Cup game next week, the club was pleased to see a genuine B team fielded - a good sign to have more than 40 Colts down at Home Park.
From the off, Chipping Norton appeared a team that meant business, and immediately put Windsor under some pressure, resulting in Chipping Norton registering an unconverted try out wide. Windsor regrouped, and started to find their way into the game, but initially struggled to get themselves out of their own half. On the 15 min mark, a well judged kick behind the defensive line led to a second try for the visitors, this time below the posts for an easy conversion, and a 0-12 deficit.
However, this proved to be the catalyst the home team needed, and Windsor now started to apply pressure on to their visitors, unfortunately an attack down the left flank, was thwarted on the line denying Ren Fiddy a try. Windsor were now playing their rugby in the Chipping Norton twenty-two, and a period of dominance led to a 5m scrum and our first score, with No 8 Max Cunningham breaking away, and powerfully driving over for a try in his first game back from injury this season. The scores were set at 5-12 going into the break.
Windsor started the 2nd half confident they could turn this game around, and 10mins into the 2nd period proved the case with their second try, a forward drive out wide, and a score by Billy Nieland. Unfortunately conversion missed, but a more respectful 10-12 scoreline, and still with 25 mins to play. That was quickly dashed with a Chipping Norton break from a scrum, and a converted try, for an extended 10-19 lead. However, Windsor went back on the attack, and a break down the left flank delivered the opportunity for Jimmy Winch to sprint 40 m in for a well-taken try under the posts, this time converted by Jamie Lawson to claw back to 17-19, and still 20 mins to go. Windsor were now back in the zone, and after a series of forward drives, Rokas Daujotas drove over from short range for Windsor to take the lead for the first time, 22-19. With time slipping away, Chipping Norton struck straight back with another forwards try in the corner, again not converted, and the lead swung back in their favour, 22-24. A 2-point deficit going into the final 5 mins, and Windsor pressing for a win. Perhaps a little too hard, as a gap left open was exploited by an outrageous scrum half dummy, to run the length of the field for a 5th try, and a Chipping Norton win, 22-29. A tough one to absorb, as a Windsor win was there for the taking, but much like England’s National team, Windsor couldn’t close the game out.
This Sunday, Windsor Colts 1st XV go in the 3rd round of the Under 18 Boys National Cup. KO is 13:30, and your Windsor Colts team would really value a large Windsor turnout to support the boys in their quest for a place in the last 16 of this National Colts tournament. The boys have shown great ‘heart’ in getting this far in the tournament, but now we need that 16th player on the side lines, and every voice counts.
See you on Sunday!’
